An isolated convent, a supernatural presence, a dark secret…
17-year- old Paloma only wanted to hold a séance to contact her dead father. She never thought she would be kicked out of school and end up in an isolated convent. Now, all she wants is to be left alone. But slowly, she develops a bond with a group of girls: kind-hearted Maria, insolent Silvy, pathological liar Adelita, and their charismatic leader Rubia. When, yet again, Paloma holds a séance in the hope of contacting her father, she awakens an entity that has been dormant for years. And then, the body count begins. Someone doesn’t want the secret out…
Are the ghost and Paloma’s suspicions real—or only part of her growing paranoia and delusions?
WOW!!
If you are looking for an interesting, but easy read - this should be the next one on your list. From the very first few paragraphs I was hooked. The twists and turns keep you off balance and wondering what was going to happen next! I love easy reads like this that actually grab my attention.
Besides all of that, Kalo did a great job of building up the characters and making you love some, while you hated others. And then there were the ones that you just couldn't seem to get ahold of, that you kinda liked in one scene and were horrified with in the next. She really made you connect with them so that when one did something "out of character" you were thrown, but then she subtly pulled you back in and helped you understand.
Kalo also does a great job of helping the reader build the convent and surrounding area and events in their head. Her descriptions really bring you into the cold isolated convent and help you walk the halls in your imagination, feel the cold dripping from the walls, and hear the roar of the waterfall in your ears. Just enough description to help get that world building in your head and allowing your imagination to take over and fill in the gaps.
All in all - this is a perfect quick read. It is interesting enough to grab your attention and keep it through the entire read, while not dragging on. The twists and turns in the plot are very well done and really bring the entire storyline together. Read this book, you won't regret it!! :)
